"Did you ever notice that you go to the most disgusting places in the country?"

asked my friend, Helen.

She's right. Because I don't have time to do real writing, here are my notes on the Gigantic Downtown Wilmywood Country Nightclub that Dan and I visited in NC. After passing through the metal detectors AND paying the cover, I typed these notes on my phone:

Weaselstache, radioactive stumps, bowtie barefoot bulldrider, thong sluts on bars, employees on barrels, whites dressed as blacks, lumped puke on floor, militaires on bull now, country girls grinding shamelessly on c*cks, country gradually and then totally replaced by slick Rick and.... 50something lifted onto bar by military haircuts, dancing. like a blue.velvet prostitute but wearing a.sequined dress. daisy dukes vs hot pants. Ogres in suits.

Today's Edition of the Red Line

Yup--it's a fucking cab. The Red Line was not running at all "due to a medical emergency at Park Street." I was prepared to go all the way to Allston from Davis, but bailed out of the filthy Crown Vic at Harvard to catch the 66 bus. $12 to go from Davis to Harvard, THEN use the free transfer from my useless Red Line fare to get on the bus for the rest of the trip. Our keyboard player drove from NY and beat us to the studio.

Last Saturday, it took me almost 80 minutes to get from Teele Square to Allston.

This is why people think the MBTA is useless.

This morning, I will smash into the door-blockers at the Harvard T Station with a renewed zeal.

I'm psyched because INFRASTRUCTURE just confirmed its next show, and it's at a time that should work for nearly everyone. We'll be playing at Harper's Ferry, the venerable Boston music club, at 8:30 p.m. on Tues, Oct. 13, the Tuesday after Columbus Day. We get to perform our tunes on the same stage that's been graced by Maceo Parker, B. B. King, and every one-hit wonder of the 90s.

This is awesome! We're on a mission to deliver the greatest soul-punk-blues-rock show we can, and we will.

This morning, when I attempt get off the T at Harvard on my way to the 66 bus and our studio in Allston, I know what I'll find. Dozens of tourists and assorted ignorami will be standing in front of the train doors, deliberately not looking at the people attempting to get off the train. Today, I will smash into them not with rage but with elation, as my guitar, my equipment bag, and I literally clear a path for the show to go on.

This is Death Beach, Biloxi, Miss. (DS09)

Dead businesses, dead buildings, dead fish, dead boats, and nearly dead humans. Hidden in plain sight next to the construction sites for the Margaritaville Casino and the inexplicable, Gehry-designed Ohr-O'Keefe museum, there's dead stuff everywhere in Biloxi.

Remember when the curbs and sidewalks outside my apartment were dug up and put back together about six times?

Dudes with pencils in hand are outside studying the work...uh oh.

Advanced Decay, Biloxi, Miss. (DS09)

Momentary Update.

I'm tired. That's probably because, in addition to doing my job and biking everywhere, my band played its first gig in Cambridge and is actively trying to book two more, in Boston and New York. Dates are set for CPCCPCIV1 and ABBQII2. The Labor Day beach week in NC turned out to be a huge success for photos and stories. Meade and I are inching toward launching our road stories website, MANICAMERICAN.COM. It'll be an exhilarating fall.

Just heard a guy at the liquor store say to the clerk:

"Nippa Goldschlaggana Pahliment Light"

Ten years in and the accent is still fascinating.

I've managed not to mention on this here blog that the first gig of my blues-rock-soul-punk group, INFRASTRUCTURE, will happen later this week in Cambridge. We'll be at All Asia on Thursday night. Facebook event page (public) is here. Come out and say hello.

I am happy that I can now tag myself "local music."

The traffic signal at Boylston and Ipswich exists for a reason.

On my way to Guitar Center behind Fenway, I was almost run over by some asshole in an SUV who blew through a solid red light and turned right onto Boylston going about 20mph. Now I'm sitting outside Guitar Center watching a motorcycle cop pull over other massholes for doing the same thing. Three down so far. NO, FOUR!

Just saw a Somerville Ford Fusion hybrid cab in Ball Square.

Maybe Green Cab is finally encouraging hybrid usage, as opposed to telling the press hybrids are "too small" and dangerous. One driver even told me personally that global warming was a liberal myth and that there was no need to be more efficient.
